An introduction to Home Start

“Home-Start Butser plays a vital role in supporting local families and young children at times of need and stress.  It helps by greatly reducing feelings of isolation and encouraging the local community to work together to support these families.”

About Home-Start Butser

Home-Start is the UK’s leading family support charity.  There are Home-Start branches all over the country and the first Home-Start scheme was launched in 1973.  Each local Home-Start is an independently registered charity.

Home-Start Butser was established in 1998 by the local community to support families with young children.  It covers a large area of East Hampshire, from Greatham in the North to Rowlands Castle in the South.  See map of area we cover.

Many parents need help, friendship, advice or support during those early years when children are young. There is no rulebook for raising a family and sometimes it can seem overwhelming, particularly if your family is going through difficult times.
Our volunteers are all parents themselves and understand the difficulties families may be facing. They support parents as they grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children, and widen their links with the local community.

Families are referred to Home-Start Butser from many sources, including Children’s Services, Health Visitors, GPs and Housing Associations. They can also self refer.
Problems experienced by families are wide-ranging, and include physical or mental health issues, including post-natal depression, multiple births, and geographical or social isolation.
